Since Activision Blizzard parted ways with the ESA last May (http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/685102/Activision_Vivendi_Skipping_E3_08.html), everyone has been wondering the reason behind the company's decision. After many media speculations, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick explains to Variety why his company left.
"I said don't view it as anything but time off," said Kotick when he apparently told ESA's head Mike Gallagher. But how much "time off" does his company need? Enough time off to miss the biggest gaming convention this year? Well, according to Kotick, it would be enough time off to further consummate Activision's merger with Vivendi. "With the combined companies, the dues went up enough that I said for it to make sense [to spend that money], we have to make a strategic plan," said Kotick.
So now that everything has been settled with the merger (http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/686849/Activision_Vivendi_Merger_Final.html), will the new Activision Blizzard return to the ESA? "We'll consider it," said Kotick. Even though Kotick's company won't be present next week, we'll be bringing you everything else that happens at our E3 2008 coverage (http://www.g4tv.com/e32008/splash.aspx).
