Over two years since Battlefield 2142's last patch (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52924) and almost four years since the futuristic shooter was released, a hefty new patch has entered public beta testing (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-2142/1346474-battlefield-2142-v1-51-public-beta.html).</p>Patch 1.51 brings four new maps along with "numerous client and server side fixes including enhanced account security." As a bonus, it also gives all players the booster pack (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/46048) 'Northern Strike,' which adds new maps, vehicles, a mode and other goodies.

The first beta version of patch 1.51 is a 1.35GB download available on FileShack (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/21565/Battlefield+2142+Patch+1.51+Public+Beta1). If your BF2142 isn't already updated to version 1.50, you'll want to snag that patch too here (http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/12154/Battlefield+2142+Retail+1.50+Patch).

"If the servers hold up to the stress test this version will become the release version," DICE explains. "We'll try to reduce the need to do a reinstall should that change."
